I cannot fathom why this would be important, keep the most recent one and pitch the rest. But once I found a book on the Cairo that they created after it was pulled out of the river that had all the blueprints, you could make your own Cairo if you desired, that was cool but way above what I need.Nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08528725361910007225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3635716295852047938.post-83582606919918766392007-08-17T08:08:00.000-07:002007-08-17T08:08:00.000-07:00I have ordered maps through the Denver service cen...I have ordered maps through the Denver service center, but that is about it. Never been there in person.

Some of the most valuable stuff for any park will be the site assessement and historic resources reports. Site assessments often go far beyond the park limits, to track events related to the park's mission and to lay out a template of what is left to preserve.

Historic resource reports can detail things like historic buildings, foundations, cemeteries, etc - invaluable for locating lost or obscure locations.

My favorite reports at Chickamauga are the map of lightning strikes and resultant fires over the past 100 years or so, which detail how much of the historic timber (i.e. none) is left, and the cultural resources report the park had to do on the road culverts and gutters when they repaved and rebuilt the park roads over the past few years. Want to see a 100 page report on historical masonry techniques in turn of the century road-building? They got one...

Dave PowellAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3635716295852047938.post-62423758304396742452007-08-16T13:08:00.000-07:002007-08-16T13:08:00.000-07:00Basically anything the NPS creates ends up at TIC....Basically anything the NPS creates ends up at TIC. So there are tons of reports; ever wanted to know how Gettysburg plans to control its deer population? well its there. The maps are the true goldmine there, tons of troop movement maps, but there are plenty of other book materials. The plan was once to put the catalog online so it'd be easier for everyone to order items but that is so far behind schedule I'd doubt if it ever happens. The book part of the catalog is online but many of those you can request thru interlibrary loan. I'll look for that link tonight and post it, if/when I find it.Nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08528725361910007225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3635716295852047938.post-59985149556948895912007-08-16T10:03:00.000-07:002007-08-16T10:03:00.000-07:00Nick,Is there reseach material at TIC-NPS other th...Nick,

Is there reseach material at TIC-NPS other than maps?
